On Thursday, the world’s top aluminum producer, Russia’s UC RUSAL (0486.HK) (RUAL.PA), reported that it had repaid $2.14 billion owed to creditors, reducing its total debt to $12.9 billion.

The press release is quoted as saying:

The company had raised the funds via an initial public offering on the Hong Kong and NYSE Euronext Paris stock exchanges last month. It said in a statement the funds were repaid to several international and Russian lenders, as well as the Onexim Group, which is one of RUSAL’s shareholders and an investment vehicle of tycoon Mikhail Prokhorov.
